The game uses an experience-based progression system; as Sora defeats Heartless and other foes, he gains experience points. The amount earned is tied to the strength of the enemy and remains consistent throughout the game. As Sora levels up, his core attributes—strength, defence, magic, hit points (HP), magic points (MP), and ability points (AP)—increase. Furthermore, a new, predetermined ability is unlocked approximately every four levels, allowing players to customize their combat style with moves like Dodge Roll or specialized magic spells. This blend of traditional RPG stats and high-octane action set a new precedent for the genre.
