Gameplay

From the start of the game, the player controls Dante or his new partner Lucia through various levels as they battle waves of demons. While Dante retains his signature sword and dual pistols, Lucia provides a distinct playstyle centered on speed, agility, and throwing daggers. A major innovation in this entry is the Amulet system. Throughout the levels, players acquire different parts that can be equipped by accessing the pause menu. These parts change aspects of the characters' Devil Trigger forms, offering elemental moves (like fire or lightning), time-stop abilities, faster movement, and even flight. This allowed for a layer of customization regarding how players approached the game's many boss encounters. Additionally, DMC2 introduced mechanics that would later become staples of the series, such as the ability to run on walls and perform multidirectional shooting with 'Twosome Time.'
