In 18 Wheeler: American Pro Trucker, the core objective is to deliver the truck's cargo to the finish line before time runs out. Players can gain extra time by colliding with marked vans. The game features a selection of characters, each with their own truck and distinct advantages. Starting in Key West, the journey spans across the USA, culminating in San Francisco. After the initial stage, players choose between two trailers: a challenging one with a high reward or an easier one with a lower payout. Damaging the trailer results in monetary deductions. Players can use the horn to clear traffic and utilize slipstreaming behind larger vehicles for brief speed boosts. A rival trucker, "Lizard Tail", adds competition; beating him to the finish earns bonus cash. Between main levels, players can participate in a parking mini-game to accumulate additional funds.
