In the world of Shogi, where professionals and gamblers coexist, 81diver on the playstation 2 puts you in the shoes of those who play for money, challenging opponents with varying skill levels and attitudes. Based on Shibata Yokusaru's manga, adapted into an 11-episode TV series, the game features a Story Mode where you play as Sugata Kentarou, a former Shogi prodigy who now makes a living as a gambler after failing to achieve his dream. After a crushing defeat by Ukeshi, a young woman who never loses, Sugata is spurred to train harder and become the ultimate Shogi player. The Story Mode follows Sugata's journey as he faces numerous opponents, with new challengers appearing based on his performance. Besides the Story Mode, 81diver also includes a Versus Mode, a 2-Player Mode, and a Shogi School Mode to teach beginners the fundamentals of Shogi.
