In 'Acrobat Mission' for the Super Famicom, players assume the roles of either 'Jet' or 'Nova', two remaining fighter pilots. They pilot the Icarus, a swift and formidable space fighter equipped with a standard laser. Throughout the game, two additional weapon types can be acquired: the wide shot (W), which spreads projectiles across the screen, and the Hurricane shot (H), which fires rotating clusters of energy. Holding the fire button charges up a unique special attack, each weapon boasting a distinct energy blast and damage output. The Icarus can carry up to two smart bombs, one under each wing; however, these bombs are easily dislodged and can be detonated by enemy fire. Notably, the Icarus is immune to collisions with other ships or the environment, instead bouncing off them, only sustaining damage from enemy projectiles. Once the shield is depleted, the ship loses control for a brief period, offering players a final opportunity to inflict damage before it explodes.
