A scrapped rendition of the renowned cult animated show with the same title. It shouldn't be confused with the other abandoned adaptation from 2000, or the movie tie-in that was released in 2005. A game drawing inspiration from the original animated series was revealed on April 9, 1996, for the PlayStation. Cryo Interactive was in charge of development, and Viacom New Media was in charge of publishing, for the game, which was loosely based on "The Demiurge" episode. At E3 that year, the game made its debut with Æon Flux creator Peter Chung present to promote it, and commercial advertising was even featured on the 1996 VHS release of the animated series. When Spelling Entertainment realized it had two video game divisions, Viacom was shut down. In 1997, Spelling merged Viacom with Virgin, who then cancelled every Viacom title that was in development or planned such as Aeon Flux. Cryo, in the meantime, modified the game and released it in Europe as PAX Corps to underwhelming reviews. No US publisher has committed to releasing the game in the country. It's also important to note that GT Interactive now owns the Aeon Flux license, though no game has been formally revealed as of yet.
